At Lions Heating & Air, our mission is simple: real comfort means more than temperature control. It means safety, peace of mind, and support for families when they need it most. That’s why we are proud to announce our $2,000 donation to Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, a powerful step forward in our ongoing Hearts & Homes charitable initiative.
We were honored to welcome Shade Mokuolu, Senior Director of Individual Giving at Alzheimer’s LA, to our office this month for an in-person check presentation.
This donation represents a portion of our monthly proceeds through Hearts & Homes, a program that provides both financial support to Alzheimer’s organizations and in-kind HVAC services directly to families in Southern California who are caring for a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia.
A Partnership With Purpose
Our collaboration with Alzheimer’s LA goes beyond donations. We are building a long-term partnership rooted in compassion, action, and shared values.

Through this relationship, we aim to:
- Fund critical Alzheimer’s support programs in Los Angeles County
- Offer discounted or donated HVAC services to eligible families referred through trusted Alzheimer’s support networks
- Educate the public about how indoor air quality, temperature control, and home safety can directly impact the health and well-being of individuals living with dementia
Together, we are turning everyday home services into life-changing support.
Why HVAC Services Matter for Families Facing Alzheimer’s
Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia is a full-time responsibility. Family caregivers often face financial strain, emotional fatigue, and housing challenges. What many people don’t realize is how vital a properly functioning HVAC system is for the health and safety of these households.

For someone living with Alzheimer’s, the ability to recognize discomfort or communicate physical distress diminishes over time. If their home becomes too hot, too cold, or poorly ventilated, it can lead to serious health risks such as:
- Dehydration and heatstroke
- Agitation and disrupted sleep patterns
- Respiratory infections due to dust, mold, or poor air filtration
- Increased confusion, fear, or disorientation
A clean, stable indoor environment plays a direct role in reducing these risks and improving the daily quality of life for everyone in the home.
The Link Between Air Quality and Alzheimer’s Progression
Recent studies continue to show how air pollution and poor indoor air quality may actually accelerate Alzheimer’s symptoms. According to a 2023 study published by Penn Medicine, fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air can worsen cognitive decline and increase neuroinflammation, particularly in individuals already living with dementia.
The study revealed a direct connection between poor air quality and the buildup of harmful proteins in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
This makes clean indoor air more than a comfort, it’s a form of care. Installing high-efficiency air filters, maintaining HVAC systems, and regulating indoor temperature are simple but powerful steps to help protect brain health and support overall well-being.
Through Hearts & Homes, Lions HVAC is helping families do just that.
Real Support for Real Families
In addition to our financial contribution, our team regularly performs donated or discounted HVAC services for local families identified through our charitable partnerships.

These services include:
- System diagnostics and repairs
- Air purification system installations
- Routine maintenance and filter changes
- Emergency service support
- Temperature zone balancing for bedrooms and living areas
One recent example: we helped a caregiver whose mother with dementia was restless at night. After inspecting the home, we found that her bedroom temperature was 80°F, while the rest of the house was a comfortable 72°F. Our team installed a zone system and addressed airflow issues, allowing the mother to sleep peacefully and giving the caregiver peace of mind.
